Motherland celebrates Mother's Day with rural mums across NSW and QLD
More than 540 rural mums from New South Wales and Queensland came together for three events held in May and June for a powerful day of connection, conversation and community with Motherland.
The Deniliquin event in New South Wales, Kingaroy and Clermont events in Queensland marked Mother’s Day celebrations honouring the incredible women of rural Australia.
Motherland Village Ambassador and local farmer Melanie McNaughton hosted the Kingaroy event and said it was a celebration of the highs and lows of rural motherhood, from new mothers through to grandmothers.
“We know the challenges of living in rural and regional areas, but we also know the value of community and connection through programs like Motherland,” Mrs McNaughton said.
“As a facilitator of Motherland Village, I’ve seen the difference it’s made to the lives of many mums, and I’m proud to work for an organisation that provides rural mothers with the services and support they deserve.”
The proceeds from the events will enable Motherland to grow its impact, and bolster its Scholarship Fund which supports rural mums doing it tough to access its Motherland Village program for free. Women from across the New South Wales Riverina regions, South Burnett and Isaac regions are encouraged to apply.
“Mothers across farming communities need additional support now more than ever, and Motherland is committed to growing our impact in areas that play such a critical role in our country’s agricultural story,” Motherland Founder and CEO Stephanie Trethewey said.
Clermont and Kingaroy events were held in partnership with the Queensland Government, enabling Motherland to significantly expand its services and bolster its support services including its Scholarship Fund across the state.
“The success of inaugural events in Clermont and Kingaroy is a testament to the support of the Queensland Government, and the incredible generosity of local businesses, and the community spirit in the region,” Stephanie Trethewey said.
Motherland has now connected hundreds of rural mums at similar events across the country, from Kangaroo Island to Goondiwindi, and has more events scheduled for 2025, including Darkan, WA on September 21 and Quilpie, QLD on October 11. Tickets will be on sale from early August.
