For Lydia, the friendships she found through Motherland Village were worth travelling 2,500 kilometres for.
Lydia joined Motherland Village in 2023, looking for connection with other rural mums. Two years later, she had the chance to meet some of those women in person at a Motherland fundraiser in Deniliquin.
It meant a 2,500-kilometre round trip with two little people in tow. For Lydia, it was worth every kilometre.
Meeting these incredible women face-to-face and feeling the strength of the community we'd built was something I will never forget.
A naturally social person, Lydia has always valued friendship. But the relationships she has formed through Motherland have offered something particularly special: the comfort of being surrounded by women who understand and support each other, no matter what.
"What makes these connections so special is the unconditional understanding we have for one another."
Lydia continues to make the effort to attend Motherland events, both to support the organisation and to spend time with the community that has become so important to her.

For Lydia, finding her village online was only the beginning. What started on a screen has grown into genuine, lasting friendships, the kind worth going the distance for.

“Motherland Village has been a refreshing experience to stop and self-assess as a mother, wife and friend and try to be the best me I can be. I have made the most amazing connections and learnt so much from my tribe. I loved that we were all challenged in a nurturing environment and encouraged to be honest, open and vulnerable.”
