Motherland launches new online health platform to connect rural mums to services
Motherland, a national charity that supports rural mothers across Australia, has launched a new online health platform, Motherland Connect.
Motherland Connect is the country’s first digital resource hub for rural mothers, a one stop shop connecting them to the services they need to support their mental, and physical health, and that of their family’s.
The innovative platform went live today and tackles a significant issue in rural Australia, connecting women to the services they need, with the click of a button.
Staggeringly, over 70% of rural mums told Motherland through a recent survey that they’ve put off seeking healthcare because they’ve been unable to access or find the right services they need.
“Motherland’s mission is to reduce isolation for rural mothers and improve mental health outcomes. The fact that 30% told us they don’t have access to mental health services in their nearest town shows the dire need for the Motherland Connect platform,” said Motherland founder and CEO Stephanie Trethewey.
Motherland’s recent survey of rural mums across Australia also found that over 60% of rural mums turn to Google to find services when they can’t find them locally. Motherland Connect mobilises support into one easy to use platform where women can search by their location or post code, and be connected to physical services, or telehealth support across a range of categories.
More than 100 organisations are already listed on the platform across a number of categories including mental health, relationships, pregnancy and birth support, matrescence, allied health, fitness, nutrition, parenting support and more.
Motherland Connect is proudly supported by nbn, its major partner. The project won Motherland the 2023 Innovate with nbn® Grants Program Women in Regional Business Award.
“At nbn, our purpose is to lift the digital capability of Australia. We do this through connecting people to the things that are important to them. That is why we are excited to partner with Motherland Connect and support the incredible work it is doing.” – Sam Dimarco General Manager nbn Rural and Remote.
“Mums are the backbone of our rural communities and our charity will continue to advocate for them and offer support to them and their families in any way we can,” Stephanie said.
Motherland is calling on more businesses across Australia to list their services on the platform. Organisations can register for membership via www.motherlandconnect.org.au.
